This came through on my Facebook feed this morning and it
struck a chord with me.
I, like anyone else love to see the wild animals that
Kenya is famous for, and Africa for that matter. But have you ever stopped to think about the
people who try and protect these magnificent animals in their natural habitat
day in and day out. I think at the back
of our minds we know there are rangers in the national parks, doing their job
not only helping tourists but they are also putting their lives at risk and
making their families worry every time they go to work.
Has anyone thought about that?
I wanted to share the post and get some awareness out
there for these unrecognised, unsung hero’s of Africa.
''The reality of commitment”
While myself, and others, enjoy the wide open spaces, as well as the solitude
and sanctuary thereof, there are others far more entrenched in it, it is their
means of livelihood, and one which will seldom bare any significant financial reward, yet
will leave them with a true sense of purpose.
To all those on the frontline of wildlife conservation and awareness, Happy
"World Ranger's Day", and we thank you for your efforts.
May poacher's bullets elude you, so you may return to your families.
Your work is appreciated, and applauded by myself
and many others.
Have a great day out there today, stay safe….. ‘’

WHAT YOU CAN
DO
‘’To commemorate World Ranger Day, the KNP will
on 31 July 2013 host an event to remember rangers who were killed or injured in
line of duty. The KNP Management will also make use of this event to celebrate
and acknowledge the work being done by both men and women in green.
Rangers on a daily basis put their lives in danger
to protect the world's heritage. With the current scourge of rhino poaching
taking place in the country, the rangers are the last barrier between a rhino
and a poacher. These brave warriors have sacrificed their lives to protect the
country's natural assets. Come weekends or the festive season, to them it is
business as usual.
Of course not all of us can be part of this event,
but we can make use of other means to show support to the KNP rangers who are
at the forefront of fighting against the scourge of rhino poaching. Let us
rally behind our rangers by,
posting messages of support on this Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/kruger.sanparks/?fref=ts
or sending a thank you note/cards to an email address:
Stephens.Ledwaba@sanparks.org
We will share the messages with the rangers on the
day of the event and let them know that the world is behind them.
Regards
